(**NOTE** The fact that I am about to dedicate a whole blog post to a food processeor is slightly bizzare. Don't judge me. I was really excited about my idea...I know that at least Mel Corona would share my excitement on this one...)
This is my trusty food processor. I've had her for about 5 years (I don't think a hard-working kitchen appliance can be a "he" - do you?) She has served me well. 1 year and 1 week after I purchased her, she broke. Not badly, but basically the only way to turn her on and off now is by using the power switch on the wall. (Why does something always go wrong ONE week after the warranty expires?) We still get along just fine.
But we have a real "love-hate" relationship. I love the way she makes light work of otherwise tiresome chores, but I hate the fact that I have to retrieve her from a high cupboard, disassemble the parts (I only ever use the chopping blade), put her to work (because she works so hard we only only really need to converse for a minute or two), and then the annoying washing up of all of her little bits and pieces. Wait for those to dry and then reassemble all pieces inside the bowl and place back on high cupboard. What a PAIN!
Last weekend we made chocolate truffles, you know the old-time recipe with crushed biscuits, condensed milk, cocoa and coconut. Yum. But a huge pain getting out the food processor just to crush biscuits for 30 seconds.
Then I had an idea...this is pure genius (if you already do it, don't tell me, please let me think I am the only person who has ever done this before in the whole wide world, because I'm thinking I am pretty good at the moment!)
Today I got the food processor out, along with 4 packets of biscuits I had purchased on special during the week and I whizzed ALL FOUR PACKETS up! Insane!
Then I located an empty container (Tupperware Modular Mate, to be precise) and filled it up with biscuit crumbs!
Seriously, this is genius and makes me very happy. Now when I need biscuit crumbs all I have to do is weigh the correct amount out and voila! no food processor dismantling or washing up for me! I probably won't need them for another 6 months, but when I do, I will be prepared!
Carli has cocoa...I have biscuit crumbs...life goes on.
I love it! Sometimes I will put off making biscuits etc b/c I can't be bothered getting out the cumbersome processor. Will def be following this idea!
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea Toni, Although being someone with no food processor i sit with a bowl and a big fat heavy rolling pin and bash my biscuits to crumbs...I think it would take me an awfully long time to do 4 packs of them!
ReplyDeleteStore them in the freezer and it will even keep them from going stale! Yum, those look tasty. I only have a mini-food processor, so you can imagine my frustration when I'm trying to chop my ingredients in several batches. . .
ReplyDeleteHaha.. yeah I'm with Elissa, don't have one either! So you can imagine how excited I am about spending 20 minutes hand crushing a packet of biscuits!!
ReplyDeleteMelissa -x-
thats amazing.
ReplyDelete=P
Great Idea Tone - this would make whipping up a cheese cake at last minute so much easier!!! Although.... I don't have one either, so I won't be doing it - but if I did I would be storing biscuits crumbs for sure!! So i'll just keep banging away with my wooden spoon!!!
ReplyDeleteFood Processors are the greatest thing ever! They can do anything and make life so much easier. You'll have to make lots of recipes with bikkie crumbs now, yum!
ReplyDeletePure Genius!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. I'll be doing that for sure.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I would love to help you with measurements but my hips, waist and chest aren't quite in proportion at the moment!!
PURE GENIUS! You should have thought of that EONS ago!
ReplyDeleteHa ha - glad to see that Jack is getting some good cooking tips from your blog, Tone!! :)
ReplyDeleteWait, wait, we don't have that recipe here in the US. Do tell. I'll be sure to crush up the whole box of biscuits at once, though....
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, I can get excited by a kitchen appliance too. I remember when I was little we went to the mainland and they SOLD biscuit crumbs in the supermarket - already crushed up!!
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice container of crumbs though!!!
