Funky Fabrix is located in Brisbane, Australia and has been around since 2004. They initially started specialising in retro, vintage fabrics and have quickly grown to incorporate a wide range of fantastic fabrics and other sewing supplies. As well as running a successful online store, Funky Fabrix also have a great "bricks and mortor" retail store in Mitchelton, QLD - so if you are in the area, make sure you pop in and say hello!
I had a great time playing around with a couple of "Make Your Own Bunting" kits that from Funky Fabrix sent to me. These kits are a bargain - you get a pre-printed panel of fabric complete with easy instructions guiding you through making your own bunting. I know that making a bunting isn't exactly rocket science - but these kits are brilliant for first time sewers who might be a little nervous to make something entirely from scratch. They are also great for a more advanced sewer - I loved the fact that I could have the whole bunting finished in less than half an hour and all I had to do was make up some binding to connect it together with (and if I was REALLY lazy I could have just used ribbon!)The buntings are printed on a lovely lightweight cotton in simple designs making it perfect for both children and adults, males and females. A very versatile decoration that I know will get good use around here! I chose not to hem the edges of my bunting and cut around the pieces with pinking shears instead as I was running short on time and knew that it wasn't going to be handled much so wouldn't fray. Isn't it fab?!
Funky Fabrix also sells a large range of designer cotton fabric, lovely linens, cosy flannels, designer knits, trendy home dec fabrics, sewing books and patterns and more!
One of the things that I really like about Funky Fabrix is that they specialise in organic cottons (something we are seeing more and more of these days) and original vintage fabrics.
I have mentioned on my blog before how much I love this Birch Marine Organic fabric range:
And I am loving this Circa 60 Happy Campers range too (with a few pure organic solids thrown in):
This range is an oldie but a goodie and one I will never get sick of. Gorgeous Monaluna Organic:
Check out some of the original vintage fabric you can purchase at Funky Fabrix...most of this fabric is dated around 1950-1970 and is brand new, straight off the bolt!
