.MIP Pattern Parade: MISS MATATABI.

Today's guest on the Pattern Parade needs no introduction on my blog, she is like an old friend and if you've been hanging out here for awhile then you will know who Miss Matatabi is! Frances (the girl behind Miss Matatabi) is an Aussie living in Japan and she runs an amazing fabric store, Miss Matatabi, specialising in modern Japanese fabrics. Because Frances actually lives in Japan, she manages to get her hands on rare and unique fabrics - many of which are suitable for sewing clothing - and she sells them for a great price too!

Frances' daughter, A is wearing a sweet Zip-It dress in the Parade today. Frances used a soft (double sided) cord from her shop for the dress and it is so pretty. I love how she used the one fabric for the whole dress, with no contrast. It really takes the dress to a different level. See more at Miss Matatabi!

Joining the Pattern Parade all the way from Portugal today is Marta from DoGuincho. (Portugal...cool, huh?!) She sews bright and happy clothing for her two super cute daughters and all of her posts include English translation, which is good for us non-Portuguese readers and way easier than using Google Translate!!

Marta is sharing a gorgeous Zip-It dress she has sewn for her daughter in the Pattern Parade. Doesn't it scream "Summer"? I think she needs an ice cream cone to top it off! I've been holding onto this fabric since 2009! One of my absolute favourites from Lizzy House's first range, Red Letter Day.

 

So I guess it goes to show how much I love the Zip-It dress pattern...I didn't have any trouble cutting into the fabric at all!

Love the lime green with contrasting blue - always nice to have a change from pinks and purples for little girls.

And I think it looks absolutely adorable on Lil - I can't wait to sew some more for her!

Zip-It!

Zip-It is a comfortable, easy to wear dress with loads of retro-style. 

Featuring a chunky, bright coloured zipper down the front, it not only boasts funky style, it is also super easy to put on and off.

 

With contrast circular yoke and stand-out curved pockets, Zip-It is a bright, sunshiny dress boasting pure fun.

 

Don't be intimidated by the zipper - this is the easiest way of inserting a zipper you can try, perfect for a beginner! 

Zip-It looks equally great on it's own or with leggings and layers on chilly days - a timeless dress for every occasion!

I sketched this dress over a year ago and have been looking forward to seeing it come to life ever since! Zip-It is super practical, easy to wear and features a whole heap of simple details that really bring it to life. 

I think the retro-style deserves brightly coloured fabrics, but can see Zip-It working equally well with solids - perhaps a random sprinkling of buttons sewn around the yoke or a bit of simple hand-embroidery would look great too.

Lil was such a trooper taking these photos - it was freezing cold and she still was a lovely little model (with the reward of painting my toenails when we were done - such simple pleasures and I now have rainbow toes!)
