.Do you think I need help?.

My husband thinks I need to go to Fabrics Anonymous.  I think it is perfectly normal.  And besides, it looks pretty...

What do you reckon?

I'm looking forward to inviting you into the rest of my sewing room over the next few weeks.  A room that I have never formally introduced you to on my blog because I have never had it "just right" but it is almost there and I'm excited to share my creative space with you!
This is the cupboard (Billy Nyckelby - Ikea) that houses all of my bigger pieces of fabric - 1 meter/yard+ (and a few full half meter pieces).  As well as my collection of sewing books and other pretty bits and pieces that I still need to add to.  I worked out that I have around 400 meters of fabric in this cupboard - yikes!  Maybe I should sign up for one of those challenges to use more fabric than I actually buy...nah, boring.  I have another cupboard that stores my smaller pieces of fabric - under 1/2 meter and a big box for my small scraps (I'll share all of that with you soon).  This is the best fabric storing system I have ever had and I love it!

While we are on the subject of fabric, here are some of my most favourite recent additions to the "stash"...or should I call it the "shop"?!

Marine by Dan Stiles - I LOVE this range.  Like REALLY REALLY love it.  So much cool stuff can be made out of this for boys, and it is really hard to find a good boy fabric.
Irving Street flannel by Erin McMorris.  I've mentioned quite a few times on the blog how much I love Erin McMorris so treated myself to some of her new flannel range.  It is super soft and I think Lil and I are going to get some cute winter jammies out of it!
Dream On by Urban Chicks.  This fabric is destined to be a massive picnic blanket for our family.  When I ever get around to making it.  Any ideas for a quick and easy quilt pattern?  I am thinking of backing it in a flannel-backed, vinyl tablecloth so that it is waterproof.
Macaroni Love Story by Heather Ross.  Super, duper cute!  I have no idea what it will become and I blame my purchase totally on peer pressure from Anna
Now that I've shared mine - you share yours!  How do you store your fabric?  What fabric have you purchased lately?

P.S. I'll tell you a little secret...every now and then, when I use a favourite piece of fabric, I repurchase the same print because I don't want it to run out.  That doesn't mean that I have to go to Fabrics Anonymous, does it?!

Yes, you need help! I so love it though - so bright and just gorgeous!

Actually, I have your thinking when it comes to shoes. If I really love a pair - I get 2!

I know....I have problems :)

Oh Toni my man thinks I need to go to fabric annonymous as well!!! I disagree. But man your fabric stash is so NEAT! Please tell me it is not always so neat??!! When we moved house I have literally just crammed all my stuff in new sewing room and shut the door, now have fabric falling off shelves and on top of me (no joke). I NEED to sort it out!

I'm surprised those shelves aren't bowing! It's very pretty storage though, and I'd love to have such a lovely, well-stocked stash!

ohmygoodness! That picture is just absolute beauty! (and possibly some pangs of envy :P)

My fabric and extras are stored in a series of vintage suitcases and (boring) plastic tubs. I'm only 20 so I don't have a huuge amount.. yet!
Love the fabric you've featured so may have to hunt some down, especially the Marine boys fabric! I'm sure I could find something to make with them for my boy ;)(especially now he's 2 and commercial clothing seems to be 'wannabe-teenage boy' rather than 'little boy') And I haven't bought fun fabric in ages..

xx

I think it looks fantastic - makes me think I really need to sort out my fabrics, although I have far fewer. Tell your husband it's art, not just storage!

Psssh totally normal. It's not our fault that some men don't have fantastic hobbies that need copious supplies.

And when it comes to fabric storage for me - everything is hung on hangers in my craft room in the closet, and all smaller pieces and scraps and old clothes to be upcycled gets rolled up and are in a 4 wire drawer from Ikea.

So jealous :) I wish my fabric stash and my book collection was as funa dn big as yours! I do not think you have an addiction at all :) I am hoping to purchase Moda Bliss and Dream On (which I love) for quilts soon!!!

I have stash envy! My stash totals 4 yard. LOL. I love how neat all the fabric are folded up too! No organization here yet, but definitely like how visual it is!

So so pretty! And I think it only qualifies as a "problem" if you are no longer making things with it. Even using a small bit of each piece is totally acceptable.

A vinyl backed picnic quilt is a good idea, but I'll warn you that it doesn't wash very well. And you can't put it in the dryer. I used a vinyl tablecloth and made my daughter a rainjacket out of your uptown girl pattern, and after just one trip through the wash the colors had worn off the tablecloth in a lot of places. It wasn't super noticable, but I think if you washed it more than about 4 or 5 times you'd have a white backing. Which would be fine, but keep that in mind.

Looks delicious to me! Hours of admiration all in one place. I think there would be quite a few of us there at fabrics anonymous, I reckon it would be one of the busiest places in town.
Enjoy!
Have a super weekend.

I think I just fell in love with your sewing room. I am going to have to go on a show now like the woman that married the Eiffel Tower!

I just wish I could afford the designer fabrics, and I agree the whale fabric is GORGEOUS!

I love your cupboard to pieces, the doors especially - oh, and the fabric of course!

The thing is, we all know that you don't just look at these fabric jewels, you are highly creative and productive so really, what's the problem?

Keep buying and keep making I say.

Looks gorgeous Tone - very jealous. After showing off your work space to be fair you really need to show Jaron's as well!! :)

I would love to be that organised :) I think it looks lovely and you obviously love it...so no, you don't need to go to FAnon, you are surrounding yourself with things you love and thats not a bad thing. :) I look forward to seeing the rest of your space.

What a great fabric stash you have...I love it and am rather envious :)
Totally love, love, LOVE the Marine range!!

Melissa said...

Initially I didn't think you needed Fabrics Anonymous but the last comment just topped it off, replacing fabrics so they don't run out!! Yes, you need help!!! Hahaha... actually I LOVE it! Wow, its real eye candy!
Considering you make money after using that fabric I think you can justify it.
Thanks for sharing, can't wait to see the rest of it on Tuesday!

I think it is beautiful! I think I maybe have the saddest little collection of fabric in comparison... but I have only just taken up sewing. In fact, this afternoon I just made your snug as a bug pjs out of your make it perfect book! And also, Pip @ Meet me at Mikes has a really cute picnic rug pattern in her book Sew La Tea Do. It was printed in the Herald Sun's home magazine a couple of weeks ago too

I hate people who have their stash so beautiful & orderly! I have some of mine so hidden that I can't find it! No need to go to FA-you have a lot but it's really ubder control!
And despite what mine is, I only need to point out the golf clubs in my garage & I'm safe from any criticism!

Anna said...

nah, I don't see a problem there, I think it's your husband that's nuts. hehehe. At least you have it all nicely organized and folded, I think that's how I justify my ever growing stacks! love your macaroni love story selections, I'm so scared to even think of a project to make with mine. (oh and sorry for the peer pressure!)

p h o t o g r a p h y said...

I don't see any problem...although, if I did, we would most likely all have the same problem.

how can you not have all that fabric. it is beautiful and necessary, and keeps us sane!!

randi said...

he thinks you have a problem? why? i just don't get it. :)

your fabric shelves look lovely and i can see that they would inspire you to create!

Toni, yes you have a problem and i think you need to destash now....of course I can absolutley help you with that, and I will take ALL of your stunningly beautiful fabrics away and keep them at my house!! hehehe

Oh wow! That's so gorgeous, and so organised - I end up rummaging for ages looking for what I know's there. I love the Marine range too - I can see I'm going to have to go out and find some!

Oh My God! I just love all the colors. I think I have to tell my man that I need some more fabrics ;)

don't EVER invite Eden around for a play.. because she would find some way to pull ALL those lovely fabrics off the shelves...
Love to see what happens it all those nicely folded pieces!!!

I want to be a sewer just so I can have a cupboard like that.

Gorgeous Toni. You know you might need help when you stack in colour co-ordination. You aren't quite there yet, although I'm assuming your stash is stacked in Designer order???

I have a button on my blog of "Admit it...I have a Fabric Stash". I have a growing stash but nowhere near the size of yours...T

Jo-anne Blossy said...

It looks perfectly okay to me :D
In fact I see room for MORE fabric in that cupboard!

Irene ~ RE~VINTAGED said...

Nah!
You got nuthin on me baby!!!
Just wish mine was even a tiny bit as neat as yours though!!

Rosa and Pearl said...

I say no - my Dad would say Yes, seeing as my mum has that much fabric (if not even more). Her excuse is that Dad will retire soon and they wont be able to afford it....I think this is just an excuse to keep purchasing.
Enjoy your stash!

OMG ! I wish I could have a cupboard like yours !
Lucky you !

And yes, we all need help - but how boring is that!

LOVELY!! Looks like a fun place :) I just bought some white minky & red & white polka dots this morning. Going to make a shirt for my daughter for her birthday.

This is the best kind of porn - your husband is totally wrong - the only help you need is to buy more fabric. I have been organising mine of late http://paris-stella.blogspot.com/2011/02/making-progress.html and the only thing I can see is I have more room to buy more beautiful fabric. Why use your fabric when you can sit and look at it.

My MummaMoments said...

I love that Marine range too! I have been on the lookout for boy ideas. Your stash is incredible! So much inspiration at your fingertips! My stash wouldn't fill one of your shelves, however, I am working on building it up bit by bit hahaha! x

Aunt Spicy said...

Hummm, since I saw blank spaces on the shelves I think you actually need more :-)

JD said...

The fabric looks great and colourful all stacked like that!
I really like the glass doors for the Billy bookcase too.

My husband calls me a fabric "collector". By this he means "hoarder". But I can't tell you how happy it made me to see many of the prints I have at my house in your stash also. I have mine shelves very similar to your system.
My latest purchase: From the Wonderland line by Momo for Moda, Tweedledee in tomato and Tweedledum in sugar. Oh man, I could eat it, it is so pretty. I just like to stand back and stare at my wall o' fabric. It is a happy thing.

I love it! It's so pretty to look at!
You must feel inspired every time you walk in there!

I have the 'I don't want to cut this' problem too and my stash isn't nearly as awesome as yours.

Also, tell your hubby to just nevermind. Everyone has their hobbies. My husband has reef fish tanks, coral, fish, clams, salt . . . it's waaay more expensive than my crafty addictions (I think).

sooo jealous - wish we had IKEA in New Zealand so i could get a awesome cupboard like that for my sewing supplys. My 9mth old daughter has just found my fabric and loves throwing around all my neatly folded squares!!!

Oh look at all that lovely fabric - I particularly like the Marine set - that would be perfect for my 3 boys.

Jenn said...

All that fabric is BEAUTIFUL!!! My husband says I need to join FA also. :)

Andrea said...

fabric addiction. I'm with you there. right there beside you. Maybe not as immaculately organised there, but oh yes, i know the fabric addiction. Fabric and woven things are my passion.

Can't believe how well organised those shelves are! Amazing. Looks beautiful!

So my good friend sent me the link to your blog as we were talking about our mounds of fabric ans how to store them. Love your storage and the way it displays the vibrant color mixture. Mine is rolled with a loose rubber abnd around each piece of fabric. They stand on end in drawers so I can see them all and take and replace back in the drawer w/o too much fuss. Problem is, 20 drawers later I have run out of room again! See you at Fabrics Anonymous!!
