.yoga skirt.

I cut into the Black Organic Jersey Knit from Bloom last night.  I own a few stretchy skirts that I love to wear.  They don't need ironing, are really comfortable and easy to dress up or down.  I've been tempted to go shopping for more, but know that I can easily make one for less than a quarter of the price I'll pay in a shop.
So last night, it took me 1 1/2 hours to draft the pattern, cut and sew this stretchy skirt.  I added a yoga-style waistband to the top, but also included a row of hidden elastic to ensure that it doesn't slip down.  (Nothing worse than a skirt that won't stay up!!)
I thought it needed a bit of extra detail, so popped a ruffle trim on the bottom.
I'm really pleased with the results and know that I'll get a lot of wear out of it.  I'm leaning towards sewing lots more "basics" at the moment - everyday wear like this skirt.  Next up is a pair of yoga pants.
If all goes well, would you like to see a pattern incorporating both the skirt and pants?  They sew up quickly and easily and are great for someone who is experimenting with sewing with knit fabric for the first time.
Do you have any other "basics" pattern ideas that you have been looking for?

Yes please! I recently bought your Coastal Breeze pattern but haven't brought myself to buying the fabric for it just yet because I've never sewn with knit fabric and am still trying to figure out the best fabric to get... if it turns out my machine can't handle the fabric, I don't want to have spent alot on it. SO... a basics pattern where I could maybe get away with a slightly cheaper knit fabric would be great for experimentation purposes.
PS. Would love a bib tutorial too!

I love that skirt. So simple, yet very cute! I've been trying to figure out a pattern for myself for some simple jersey skirts. A pattern would be great!

I am a little afraid to sew with knits (esp because I don't have a serger), but am dying to make yoga pants and a similar skirt for myself! It would be SOOOO wonderful of you to post your own tips, tricks, and hints making your own yoga skirt/pants.

i am in the middle of trying to sew a knit skirt just like your but i am horrible at drafting so we will see how this comes up.
yoga pants, basic skirt and even a basic tshirt or tunic shirt(like this one http://store.textureclothing.com/1451in.html)would be nice in patterns i think.

I've been wanting to try to sew with knit, but I've been a little hesitant. I'd love to try this skirt. Also, I love those shoes!!! They are Toms??? they make wedges?!?!?

Elastic is a great idea with those yoga waistbands. Did you place it all the way around or just in the back? Is it skinny elastic or fat or clear?

I would love this pattern. I am trying to draft one in my head for the exact same thing at the moment, but I don't want to cut into my beautiful stella only to have it fail lol.

Can't wait to buy this. Does it have a roll top waist?

This skirt is great!
On a cross border trip I ran into a 2nd Target to return something from the 1st Target stop and I grabbed a black yoga skirt for $8 I think. It's insanely comfortable. I wore i to work the other day and everyone was asking why I was dressed up. You're right they're super easy to dress up.
I love the ruffle you added.

I was already debating making myself one when the ladies at work loved mine, now you've convinced me to try!

Some yoga pants would be great, but so would some funky tracksuit pants. I can never find decent ones in the shops that don't make you look like a westie mum. Also while I am at it with the suggestions...some kids pjs that are tight fitting and made out of stretcy stuff, you know like Gap sell, or cotton on kids here (although you probably don't have eithere of those shops in tassie)!!

Yes, I'd definitely be interested in a pattern for that skirt and some yoga pants. I think a skirt like that could be lovely in some really lush fine stretchy wool fabric too. I had something like it I bought when I was pregnant but it had a strange waistband that I couldn't think of as anything other than maternity (even though it wasn't). I am just getting into sewing with knit fabric and this seems like a good 'low risk' project! Perhaps with an optional lining for the skirt, so it didn't creep up tights in the winter?

Toni, went into Hype in Geelong today and saw some TOMS!!! yes some TOMS! they are SO so so comfy. I am in love. p.s: have you seen Bastians new hat, I would love it if you would check it out and make a boy pattern for it. SO cute and chimney sweepey (reminds me of Dick VanDyke, sigh) but I had to get it from America and it only came in the one colour! Jess x
