.A quilt for the newlyweds.

Well, I'm not sure how long you have to be married for the "newlywed" title to not be applicable anymore, but they were only married at the start of the year so I think they've got a little longer for newlywed status to hang around!
When Ty and Sam got married I didn't give them a wedding present because I wanted to wait and see what they actually needed and make it count.  With Sam's hefty glory box and a generous amount of gifts from family and friends, they were well set up to begin their new life together so I had grand plans to make them something special instead.
8 months later, they finally get their gift!
A quilt for the newlyweds...

I chose a selection a mustard, yellow and grey fabrics from my stash and followed the Quilt as You Go Strip Quilt tutorial by Nova.  The process was very straight forward.  It wasn't as fast as I thought it would be, but I think my little machine struggled with the weight of the quilt and it was the first time I have EVER machine quilted so it is far from perfect!  All adds to the charm, right?!  (Actually, on that note...I'm in the market for a new machine - what would you suggest?)
For the back, I teamed solid white with a few squares of fabric from the front, plus a couple that I really wanted to use on the front but didn't have enough of.

For the binding I used some Michael Miller Ta Dot fabric in yellow...

Overall, I am happy though - love the colours and stripey look.  I'm keen to give this quilting method another go (perhaps on a new machine though!)  It was fun and I can see that it would work for a really quick baby quilt or lap quilt in the future.
(I can't be bothered listing fabrics used at the moment!  However, if you want to know what something in particular is, let me know.)

P.S. Re-live the gorgeous garden wedding celebration here...it was divine!

LOVE the colors! Your machine quilting looks awesome. :) I'm far too lazy to hand quilt.

It looks fabulous, love the fabrics and colours.
I'm not sure which sewing machine to suggest, but don't buy a Pfaff. They are not anything like they used to be.

Your quilt looks great. Amazing what you can do with the right fabric.

I been looking at a new machine too. I am thinking of a Brother Innovis qc 2000. Not a lot of information on the web...need to see it in person.

Worth a look.

Cheers Kath

Love this as a wedding gift! I don't feel as guilty now with my be-lated gift for my brother-in-law and his new wife, I just have to make it count! With the strip on the white side I see it deviding the quilt into a his and her side :)
This has inspired me, thank you

Love your quilt. Although I am a seamstress I have yet to make a quilt, except for rag ones. Assume you have a new machine now, but love my Janome 6600 Memory craft. It does many layers well.

Love your quilt! I had an expensive Pfaff and loved the built in even feed foot and 9" depth and 9mm stitch width, but it was big and didn't sew a 1/4" seam and the self threading part didn't work. I got cancer and had serious weight restrictions. For awhile, thought I wouldn't be able to sew at all, but am better. Bought a Janome 3160QDC, AND LOVE IT! it weighs only 12 lbs, threaded always works, has a little table, and needle down and thread cutter which I love for about 1/4 the price of my expensive Pfaff. Just saw the date and realized you surely already have your new machine... Oh well, still love your quilt and love Pinterest for bringing beautiful quilts to look at every day.
