All I could think about was the hours of time I put into sewing each one of those little critters up, with visions of them being passed down as family heirlooms to children's children. I'm not sure if I can be bothered patching them up - is it really going to be worth the effort?!

Sorry but I had to laugh, the pink giraffe looks so sad at being used in a game of tug o war LOL
Oh, the carnage! My mom used to repair our soft toys using buttonhole twist (heavy duty thread) and it seemed to help..... Maybe if you started out using that to sew them together they would last longer....
Oh Toni - the horror. I would cry I think. Thankfully my two haven't attempted tug-of-war with the softies that I've made them. mmmmm I think I would put a stop to that very quickly. Right now we are just in the snuggling stage!

Oh no!! :-( May I suggest sock monkeys, which have a bit of 'give'?
I have a legless "Parsley" sitting on the shelf behind my computer monitor. It seems they spun her legs around too many times... I will get her back together one of these days. Luckily none of her seams have burst.
Oh that is so upsetting. Especially the horse...
Oh no Toni! I think I would have cried!! I get kinda sentimental about things like that! Wow, some of those have some serious damage! Especially that one with the legs just ripped in half!! Your kids play some mean tug-o-war!!!
I saw the first mrs perkins and thought.. Ok easily stitched up, then the second mrs perkins and that was fixable too...but goodness me, poor magoo and that giddy up horse... Wow... They must have done some serious tugging. Sad when you spend so much time making something... But I'm sure it will get a giggle when you share this story in years to come!

i am trying not to laugh out loud..sorry...but you can repair them and they will make an even more interseting family heirloom...i suggest you take a small piece of calico and write the story of why they have been lovingly stitched and repaired back together on the small peice of calico in permanent pen then sew it inside the softies ..or on a buttoned pocket patch somewhere on the softie...it will happen again in the next generation and then that generation will know they are normal too....
so sorry for the giraffe and armless monkey... I'm patching a little taz devil myself.
